David Duchovny to host "Come Together" John Lennon event - May 8, 2017

Hosted by David Duchovny, the 2017 Spring Gala, Come Together, will commemorate John Lennon's legendary contributions to musical history. Lennon's musical influence transcends a single genre or generation, leaving us with visionary albums like John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, and Double Fantasy, and timeless ballads such as "Give Peace a Chance," "Working Class Hero," and "Imagine." Under Executive Music Director T Bone Burnett and Music Director David Mansfield, this one-night-only event in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall will showcase performances by Corinne Bailey Rae, Judy Collins, Shawn Colvin, Amos Lee, Taj Mahal, Steven van Zandt, and Rennie Harris Puremovement in tribute to Lennon's ever-evolving sound from his skyrocketing start with the Beatles in 1960 through his career as a solo artist.

The 2017 Spring Gala will also feature the second annual presentation of the Kennedy Center Award for the Human Spirit, commemorating the seminal contributions made by President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to cultural life in the United States. The award recognizes two recipients: the Distinguished Philanthropist, honoring individuals who, through both personal commitment and philanthropy, have had a substantial impact on the broader cultural life of their community and country; and the Citizen Artist, recognizing leaders who utilize the presentation and production of the arts to make a demonstrated, transformational influence in communities at the local, state, or national level. The 2017 recipients of the Award for the Human Spirit are Distinguished Philanthropists Joan and Sanford (Sandy) Weill and Citizen Artists Aaron and Afa Sadykhly Dworkin. Following his Psychogeographies exhibition at the Kennedy Center in April 2015, Dustin Yellin—artist and founder of Pioneer Works in Red Hook, Brooklyn—has created original works of art that will serve as the physical awards.

As one of Washington's premier benefit engagements, the Gala provides critical funding in support of the Center's many artistic performances, arts education programs, and outreach initiatives, available throughout the year to students and families across the country.
