Video and below there is a full transcript of David Duchovny on Live with Kelly and Michael on April 17, 2014
Kelly: Now, he's an
award-winning actor who has been entertaining us and shocking us -- they really
do shock us on this show, each season. The hit show
"Californication." Please welcome back, it's always great to have him
here, our good friend, David Duchovny!
[Cheers and applause]
Michael: How you doing?
DD: I'm learning stuff this morning. I learned Whoopi Goodberg has some big feet.
M: She does.
K: They are deceptively small looking. When she told us she had a size 11, I couldn't believe it.
DD: Is that 11 men's?
K: Yes, yes.
DD: I love Whoopi.
K: Last time you were here you told us you were learning how to play the guitar. Are you still taking guitar lessons?
DD: I play every Sunday night with my buddies the guitarmy, just two guys, two old friends…Matt Warshaw and Jimmy Capuano. I kind of teach myself and they teach me. I’ve been writing music.
M: You are gonna start making music?
DD: Well, “music”
[Laughs]
M: Your own brand of music. You’re going to make an album?
DD: Yeah, yeah. Maybe next month we’ll record.
K: Do you sing?
DD: Very poorly. No, I try. I’m trying to sing better. I write my own songs so I get to sing them.
K: What do your kids think? Are they into your brand of music?
DD: If I’m playing they do the thing where they put their hand over the strings so I think they don’t like it so much.
[Laughs]
M: So if you are making an album. Will you come here to perform?
DD: Just sitting here thinking about it is making me very very nervous, but I would love to.
[Cheers and applause]
M: You have to! You have to!
K: You're family. We're family.
DD: Do I get more than one shot at it?
K: Of course. We'll start over.
DD: Would you let me do four or five?
K: Gelman would love if you did like a medley.
[Laughs]
DD: Like when you're a kid you buy the greatest hits because you get all the good songs.
M: You just got on twitter recently. I heard you and Gillian Anderson, your ‘X-Files’ co-star had a twitter exchange and all the 'X-Files’ fans went crazy. Did that surprise you?
DD: Well, everything surprises me about twitter because I don’t understand it.
K: You never will.
DD: I’m really afraid to say something stupid or offensive as usual. So, I really second guess myself when I’m there ‘oh my God, oh my God…tweet!’ or whatever that thing is.
[Laughs]
K: Do you make that tweet sound when you tweet?
DD: I just go tweet!
[Laughs]
DD: You know how’s supposed to do.
K: Yeah, exactly and do you know how to RT?
DD: Uh? Come on. Slowly.
K: We are gonna teach you a lot.
[Commecial break
and when they come back, they show a clip of Californication Season 7.
Hank comes back for Karen
Hank: Hello
Karen: What are you doing here? I thought you ran off with the rock and roll circus
Hank: I did but I came back for you. ]
Kelly: I am really in love with the two
of you. She’s the sexiest woman alive.
DD: She’s very very beautiful.
K: Does she hear that a lot from
other people? Because all of us were talking backstage about how like I always
go ‘if I was a girl I’d want to be her’
DD: I think she’s the type of woman
that women always say ‘she’s so beautiful’. I don’t think it matters at all to
her. She’s a full and wonderful person. When she looks in the mirror I don’t
think she thinks so happy ‘damn it, I’m happy on me’
M: Then when you watch that clip, when you watch the show you’re a hard living man, you kind all over the place, well you carry a torch for your ex.
DD: I do.
M: Are you two finally back together?
DD: I’m not sure if I’m supposed to say. It was always my dream it was always a romantic story so for me the ending was always gonna be Hank and Karen end up together so that’s all I will say…
M: We have to keep watching.
DD: …but who am I.
K: When you shoot your final scene I remember when I did a tv show I shoot my final scene. It was very emotional. It was hard to do, was it hard to do?
DD: Yeah, we were by LAX where we used to shoot some and watch the planes go off and it’s beautiful you see the Pacific out there. We did a few takes. It was a simple scene it was just me I couldn’t screw it up anymore. So there was no excuse to keep going you know and then we just kind of wrap Tom Kapinos - the creator - and I walking. I’ve already said that he cried and he got really mad at me so I’m going to say it again that Tom wept.
[Laughs]
DD: No, it’s very sad as you can imagine. You work with people from many many years, you miss the show but you miss the people even more.
K: We do alright.
[Laughs]
[Kelly and Michael joke about their own show]
M: Did you get to keep anything from the set? Anything that you said I have to have this.
DD: My first year wrap present from Kapinos was a Hank Moody Pimp Cup.
K: Oh I’ve seen a picture of this. There is, yeah.
DD: It’s like a jewel crossed the challis. Every Friday before my last shoot I would have an alcoholic beverage and I would have it in that cup and the crew would get so excited because they know when David’s got the pimp cup we are about to go home for the weekend.
K: That’s great and you kept that. That is precious you must never get rid of that ever. That’s a family heirloom for sure.
DD: It is precious thank you. I think maybe you should get a pimp cup.
K: Maybe I will. Maybe I’ll take a sip of yours.
DD: You can have some wheatgrass in your pimp cup.
K: Yeah, wheatgrass and vodka.
DD: That’s the breakfast of champions.
K: Hey David we love having you here. Will you come back and sing us?
DD: I will.
M: Californication the final season Sundays at 9:30pm on Showtime. Make sure to check it out. Great show. David Duchovny everybody.
