"It was like I had won some sort of contest to be like, 'You get to be on the 'X-Files!''" Joel told Access Hollywood at NBC's recent press day at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour, as he shared his enthusiasm about being a part of the Fox show.
"When I go like, 'All right, so Mulder's here… and Scully's here,' I can't believe, like, I cannot believe my good luck and thank God," he continued.
Joel is playing Tad O'Malley on the show, someone he described as "a very conservative talk show host."
Tad will become an unlikely ally to David Duchovny's Fox Mulder when the drama rolls out starting in January.
"We have some similar ideas about what's been happening on the planet, but that's about all we agree on," he explained.
Tad will also appear in scenes with Gillian Anderson's character, Dana Scully, in the project helmed by its creator.
"Chris Carter's there. He's directing them, so it's like being directed by a legend," Joel added.
